Done!
Saw "Ka" by Cirque Du Soleil at the MGM Grand. Was on Pfab "g..'s stag in April (-ish?) 2004 - night #2 of 3.
Review:
OMG! the stage was on a knuckle! it rotated down/up stage, down/up, rotated clockwise/counter-clockwise and tilted towards the audience. Oh and it lifted up/down on huge rails too.
I had shotgunned 2 beers right before the show (we were already buzzed and weren't paying attention to house opening time; it was festival seating). Damn american beer - I thought I was going to burst I had to pee so bad by the end. It actually hurt; and of course I was the one sitting farthest in the row of us.
The booth ran the length of the theatre, and was two freakin' floors! I was impressed already - the show just proved why.
The final battle sequence took place with the stage vertical and the performers on harnesses. The idea was that we were above them looking down on the action. This allowed them to do insane "jumps" over each other as they just pushed off the "ground". The coolest part though was the projection on the ground. It was as if the scene took place on TOP of a lake. Each time a performer's foot touched the "ground" it would ripple like water. This was a projected real-time image from out in the house. Because of the movement of the performers and their costume designs you did not notice they were in a projection - their shadows weren't noticeable.
We then went and played blackjack and Pfab & Bcjt developed their penchant for playing roulette. That is, before we went to the next strip club ... or did we play roulette when we came back from the strip club? hmmm.
